Let it Be

Simply a perfect song by the Beatles. It came on the radio last night and I felt as moved as I always do when I hear it ... very few pieces of art have that kind of power over me.

Paul McCartney was inspired by his mother, Mary, who died when he was 14, although many people thought "Mother Mary" was a biblical reference when they heard it. McCartney had a dream one night when he was paranoid and anxious, and he saw his mom who had been dead for ten years or so; she came to him in his time of trouble, speaking words of wisdom. This brought him much peace when he needed it, and it was this sweet dream that got him to begin writing the song. (See this link for more details) Despite this fact, I will continue to picture the Virgin Mary. That's what makes legit art so beautiful and so powerful: you can choose your own imagery and make it your own personal experience.

Let It Be
When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the brokenhearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be

For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Yeah, there will be an answer let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be

I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Yeah, let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be
